Hackney

Message from the Borough Commander

Welcome to the Hackney Police website. I hope that you find it a useful way of finding out about the people who police your borough. There are about 1,000 police officers, staff and volunteers at Hackney and I would encourage you to use this site to see the range of work we are involved in.

Chief Superintendent Steve Bending

Hackney has seen sustained crime reduction over the last four years, with over 10,000 fewer victims of crime last year compared to five years ago. In 2008/09 alone the borough reduced crime by 7%. The challenge now is to sustain the crime reduction figures we have achieved into the future and to tackle the issue of fear of crime.

Further crime reduction will not be possible without the support of our partners and communities. We will continue to engage with you through the work of the Safer Neighbourhood Teams, whose contact details can be found within these pages and through Ward Panels where you can influence the way your neighbourhood is policed.

Priorities for the year ahead are focused on further reduction in crime and disorder, with a particular focus on gang culture and violence, to support victims and witnesses of crime and to arrest and bring to justice those who choose to commit crime.
