HaringeyHarringay continue upgrading home security to tackle burglaryOn Wednesday 16th December, officers from Harringay Safer Neighbourhoods team organised for locks to be issued and fitted to vulnerable members of the community, living in homes that have inadequate security on doors and windows in three roads in Harringay Ward, known as 'The Ladder'. The team carried out surveys on Allison Rd, Seymour Rd and Hewitt Rd beforehand to establish which properties required upgrading of security. The team secured funding for the locks from Community Safety Partnership. Nine homes had their security upgraded. This included new mortice locks, window locks aswell as letter box covers and door closure systems to houses of multiple occupancy. Burglary is one of Harringay Safer Neighbourhoods team's priorities, which the local community have identified and this initiative is one of many tactics the team have been involved in to deter and disrupt criminal activity. The team have already upgraded security in all 'The Ladder' roads from Sydney Road to Beresford Road and will continue to target the rest of 'The Ladder' roads.
Sgt Jono Clay-Michael of Harringay Safer Neighbourhoods team, said: "The local community have identified burglary as a concern and we are committed to tackling this priority. We are also inviting residents of other Ladder Roads not included in this half of the project to contact us for a free crime survey, where we can we will supply the appropriate equipment if needed." "We also ask people to pass the message along amongst residents in order that we can capture as many homes as possible and build on the success of the first phase of the project which was carried out between June 2008 and June 2009." Cllr Nilgun Canver, Cabinet Member for Enforcement and Safer Communities, said: "This kind of security work can bring peace of mind to local residents. Better locks and more secure doors make it more difficult for burglars to strike." |
