Tower HamletsPolice and Mosque work together to solve local problemsWeavers Safer Neighbourhoods team have been working closely with members of Redchurch Street Mosque to combat complaints of anti-social behaviour in the area. Two members of the Mosque went along to officers conducting the anti-social behaviour patrols around the areas of Austin Street, Calvert Avenue, Arnold Circus and areas closeby. These took place over 3 nights until 2am. Police were able to identify offenders. They will be working together to offer young people alternatives to anti-social behaviour. Residents have already noticed and improvement and the number of complaints about this areas has dramtically decreased. Acting Sergeant Joanne Calver attached to Weavers SNT said, " This is a good example of how police and the community are working together to resolve local issues. We will be consulting with local residents to ensure that the problems do not reoccur and will be looking at other initiatives to improve the quality of life for residents in the ward." |
