The warrants allow them to be detained until Saturday 7 July 2007. Those in custody at a central London police station are a 26-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman arrested on the northbound M6 motorway and 26-year-old man arrested in Liverpool. A further four people remain in custody in Scotland. Searches remain ongoing in Liverpool and Staffordshire. ----------------------------------------- Posted 11:33, 2 July Two days on from the incidents in London the MPS is continuing to deploy enhanced levels of policing across the Capital. As Londoners return to work today they may notice an additional police presence at mainline stations and on the Capital's streets. This is designed to act as a highly visible reassurance. Officers from the three London forces, MPS, British Transport Police and City of London , are working closely together to ensure the police presence is replicated across the Capital. There will continue to be directed patrols by Armed Response Vehicles around transport hubs. As a visible deterrent and disruptive tactic officers will continue to use their powers of stop and search under the Terrorism Act. The enhanced measures at both Heathrow and London City Airport continue. Assistant Commissioner Tarique Ghaffur said: "I would like to praise the public for showing such resilience during this challenging time for London."It is important that people continue to carry on with their normal daily lives whilst remaining alert and vigilant and reporting anything suspicious to the police.

Security at Heathrow Airport has been thoroughly reviewed, in conjunction with key partners, and we have introduced enhanced levels of policing and security. This includes increased patrols by armed officers and the closure of access to the forecourts. This is for the reassurance and security of the public, and the measures that have been introduced are within our well established contingency plans. We are in liaison with colleagues in surrounding Forces to the Airport. The same approach is being taken at London City Airport. Policing levels across the Capital were reviewed following Friday's incidents we have deployed an enhanced number of officers for high visibility policing and this is continuing for the foreseeable future. We are working closely with our colleagues from British Transport Police and the City of London Police to ensure this enhanced policing is replicated across the Capital. Any additional measures that are needed will be taken. To review the security level visit the MI5 Internet site at http://www.mi5.gov.uk/ ----------------------------------------- Posted: 8pm, 30 June Detectives from the MPS Counter Terrorism Command are continuing their investigations into two bombs found in vehicles in central London on 29 June. Many lines of inquiry are being followed by detectives. Painstaking trawls of CCTV footage are to establish the circumstances leading up to the events in the early hours of yesterday morning, and those responsible, are being carried out. Forensics experts are continuing examinations of the two cars which contained the devices. This is an extremely complex process. The first car - a green Mercedes - was found in The Haymarket, SW1. The second car - a green Mercedes - had been parked in Cockspur Street, SW1, and later moved to an underground car pound in Park Lane, W1. We continue to appeal to any members of the public who were in the area of The Haymarket and Cockspur Street and may have seen anything suspicious or unusual. The timeframe we are interested in is not just the early hours of yesterday morning, but throughout Thursday evening - the period leading up to the time the first vehicle was discovered shortly before 2am. Anyone with information should contact the confidential Anti-Terrorist Hotline on 0800 789 321. ----------------------------------------- Posted: 1pm, 30 June Piccadilly underground station and the Haymarket are open. ----------------------------------------- Posted: 6pm, 29 June AC Tarique Ghaffur gave a statement to the press outside New Scotland Yard at 5.45pm. He said: "As you will all be aware the investigation into the incident in the Haymarket is continuing, it's often the case that after incidents of this nature people do report suspicious packages and suspicious vehicles. "We have used our tried and tested systems and procedures to deal with today. We put protective cordons in place around the scene, we've put our plans in place working closely with our partners. "I'd like to reassure Londoners we're doing everything possible to make them safe, we're putting out extra patrols, and we've reviewed plans for the weekend, safety and security is our number one priority. "I'd ask Londoners to be alert and report anything suspicious to the police. "In incidents of this nature there is disruption and we're trying to minimise that, we're grateful to the public for their continued reporting and continued vigilance.
"We are working under tried and tested systems many of which were brought in after 7/7." ----------------------------------------- Posted: 1pm, 29 June Following the incident this morning in the Haymarket the MPS has reviewed its levels of policing. At this stage we are deploying an enhanced level of patrolling in key areas in central London and across the Capital. This is to provide a visible reassurance and is not in response to any specific threat. Local officers, working with the Clubs and Vice Unit will be visiting licensed premises to reiterate ongoing crime prevention and safety advice. The MPS is in ongoing dialogue with community representatives across the Capital to ensure they kept up to date with police plans. ----------------------------------------- Posted: 10am, 29 June Police were called to reports of a suspicious vehicle parked in The Haymarket, SW1, shortly before 2am this morning (29 June). As a precautionary measure the immediate area was cordoned off while the vehicle was examined by explosives officers. They discovered what appeared to be a potentially viable explosive device. This was made safe. The MPS Counter Terrorism Command has launched an investigation. The Haymarket is likely to remain closed for the foreseeable future. The public are advised that there is likely to be local disruption to both pedestrians and vehicles. Piccadilly underground station is currently closed. The MPS will provide more information later today.
