TV documentary on CO19 - ‘In the Line of Fire’

CO19 officers at work

Film crews spent four months with CO19

The first installment of a two-part documentary on the work of the Specialist Firearms Command - CO19 - entitled ‘In the Line of Fire’ will be screened on Tuesday 10 February on ITV1 at 2100hrs.

Made by Wild Pictures, the programmes follow the work of ‘F’ relief part of CO19’s uniformed response team.

Producers spent four months filming the relief accompanying them on live operations and responding to emergency calls from the public and their colleagues.

Chief Superintendent Bill Tillbrook, in charge of CO19 said: “It was vital that CO19 opened its doors in this way to let these programmes be made.

“My officers deal with some of the most dangerous policing scenarios on a daily basis and I want the public to have the chance to see for themselves the professionalism and skill they have.”

The programmes feature officers from F relief searching for a gunman who had opened fire on a car containing two plain-clothes police officers, before running off and trying to hide.  Three and a half hours later armed officers caught Joel Johnson, who is now serving a life sentence for this crime.

Responding to search for a gunman after a shooting in Tottenham officers stop a young man wearing body armour and a single glove.  A search of the car he was in reveals a loaded gun.

Filmed during 2007, when the Met was working hard to combat a rise in fatal shootings the film crew followed CO19 and other specialist officers on proactive operations stopping cars known to be linked to people carrying guns.

The second part will be screened at 2100hrs on Tuesday 17 February.
